Appalachian Regional Commission Meeting
February 27, 2005

There was a meeting of the Appalachian Regional Commission at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. as part of the National Governors Association Meeting.

During the report of Ms. Anne Pope, the ARC Federal Co-Chair, she acknowledged the economic development work of Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation in Eastern Kentucky.

Ms. Pope further discussed a $900,000 investment in the Southern Appalachian Fund by Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.  She told those present at the meeting that SAF had been busy investing in Appalachia and that not only were the investments progressing very well financially but that those investments stimulated creation of about 80 jobs and had leveraged other private money for those companies in which SAF invested.  Ms. Pope acknowledged the work of SAF in making these investments and further pointed to SAF as an example of an ARC partnership that was working for the constituency of Appalacia.
