Kentucky Highlands, USDA Rural Development to announce self-help housing program

ALBANY, Ky. – Kentucky Highlands Community Development Corporation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development will announce a self-help housing program at the Fairgrounds subdivision in Albany on May 30.

The public is invited to attend the event, which will begin at 2 p.m. Central Time.

In addition to the members of those two organizations, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, Albany Mayor Nick Smith and Clinton County Judge Executive Lyle Huff are scheduled to participate in the event.

Specifics will be announced about the program, which will provide additional funding to help more Clinton Countians achieve their dream of home ownership.

KHIC has been involved in housing for three years, when it began working to manufacture kitchen/bath modules known as housing COREs, which help bring modern conveniences to more families in rural areas. The CORE includes a finished kitchen, bathroom and laundry room that meet universal design standards and Kentucky building codes.

In case of rain, the event will be held at Somerset Community College-Albany Campus off Highway 90.

 

Directions to the Fairgrounds subdivision

  • From the Clinton County Courthouse: Take 127 South, then turn right on Highway 553/Water Street. Go one-fourth mile and turn left at Ewing School Road. Go approximately a half-mile and turn left onto Jacobs Way and follow to the end of the road.
  • From Lexington: Go south on I-75 to 461 South. Follow 461 South to 80 West. Turn left on 27, then right on 90. Turn left of 127 South. Go past the courthouse and stay in the right-hand lane. Turn right on Highway 553/Water Street. Go one-fourth mile and turn left at Ewing School Road. Go approximately a half-mile and turn left onto Jacobs Way and follow to the end of the road.
