Stephen Taylor Represents Kentucky Highlands at IEDC Centennial Celebration in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Stephen Taylor, Development Director for Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation, joined economic development professionals from across the globe at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) 100th Anniversary Conference, held October 26-28, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is the world’s largest professional association for economic developers, bringing together public, private, and nonprofit leaders dedicated to creating jobs, fostering business growth, strengthening communities, and improving quality of life through economic development initiatives.

In true New Orleans fashion, conference attendees were treated to a once-in-a-century celebration as the city hosted a commemorative parade honoring IEDC’s centennial anniversary. Complete with marching bands, colorful Mardi Gras-style costumes, music, and pageantry, the parade transformed downtown New Orleans into a festive showcase of community pride and economic development leadership.

More than 1,000 economic developers participated in the October 27 parade, which wound through the heart of downtown New Orleans before concluding at the plaza opposite the Caesars Superdome. Among the highlights was a performance by the John F. Kennedy High School marching band, whose energy and musicianship helped create a memorable atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.

Reflecting on the experience, Taylor noted:

“The parade included about 1,000 economic developers who were attending the IEDC annual conference. The parade ended at the plaza opposite the Caesars Superdome. A truly unique and memorable experience .”

The conference provided attendees with opportunities to explore emerging trends in economic development, share best practices, and discuss innovative approaches to supporting entrepreneurship, workforce development, business retention and expansion, and community revitalization.

As Kentucky Highlands continues its mission of advancing economic opportunity throughout Eastern Kentucky, participation in organizations such as IEDC ensures that the region remains connected to national conversations and leading practices in economic and community development.
